Supporting The Nelson Museum

There are four ways in which you can support the museum (other than visiting, of course!) These are Volunteering, becoming a member of the Friends of the Nelson Museum, joining the Nelson Club and Covenanting to the museum.

Volunteering

The museum usually operates with about 35 volunteers and we are always looking for more people to join the team. If you would like to volunteer for just a few hours a week please contact the museum for an application form.

Volunteers in the museum take two roles. Most attend for half a day each week and work in the museum's reception and shop area in a customer service capacity. This involves greeting customers, selling appropriate tickets, giving information about the museum, the collections, the town and other tourist attractions, selling items in the shop and assisting visitors where necessary - for example, using the lift.

Those who wish to volunteer without giving a regular day each week and have a skill or talent to offer can still register as a volunteer but would attend as and when necessary. For example, in this capacity, we currently have a carpenter, a dressmaker, a gardener and a researcher.

The museum holds a Christmas Party, a Spring Training Day and an End of Season get together for the volunteers each year.  It's a great way to meet new people and support local heritage.

Becoming a Friends Member

Friends of the Nelson Museum support the museum with a £12.50 annual donation. This entitles the member to free visits to the museum, a quarterly newsletter and invitations to previews of new exhibitions.

Becoming a Nelson Club Member

Nelson Club Members support the museum financially with a £100 annual donation, which entitles the member to free visits to the museum, a quarterly newsletter and invitations to previews of new exhibitions.

Covenanting

Those who wish to keep the Norfolk Nelson Museum open could make a covenant to the museum. This will run for as many years as you wish, and will enable us to keep up the good work. It also entitles you to free visits to the museum, a quarterly newsletter and invitations to previews of new exhibitions.
